Futsal 4 Life Champions League
+ What is the Futsal 4 Life Champions League?
It is a two-day tournament held between the top teams from every league we have in the organisation to crown the Victorian Futsal 4 Life champions. Men’s and mixed will hold separate competitions.
+ What day will the competition be?
TBA
+ Where will the event take place?
La Trobe University Sports Stadium Bundoora, venue link is here: https://www.latrobe.edu.au/sport/facilities/sport-facilities-virtual-tour
+ Where do we find the ladder for my leagues?
Same as you would your normal league, will be right next to them in the fixtures.
Qualifying
+ How many teams qualify?
Both mixed and men’s competitions will have 18 teams each across all our competitions eligible. Currently we have 10 leagues in men’s, 9 in mixed. The top 2 teams of every league will get a spot, except for Fitzroy Thursday Men’s only the top teams will make it.
Any newly created leagues during the year will not be eligible.
+ How are points awarded in the competition?
Similar points to the regular season, 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss, -3 for a forfeit. There will also be a -3 point deduction for receiving 2 yellows in a game resulting in a red, and -6 points for a straight red card.
+ Are points awarded the same for all divisions?
No, only Division 1 teams or open divisions will receive full points. If a team is in Div. 2 or lower and get promoted to Div. 1 however, they will receive half the points up from playing in the lower divisions rounded up, i.e., the team finishes with 35 points in Div. 2 and gets promoted they will have 18 points awarded to them when joining Div. 1.
+ What about finals? Are there points awarded there?
Yes, these games will receive points as if they were a regular season game, if it goes to golden goal or penalties whoever wins the game will get the 3 points, no draws in this situation.
+ What about coming first in the regular season and/or also winning a championship, do we get extra points for that?
Yes, 3 extra points are awarded for a team winning the minor premiership in a season, and 3 points awarded for winning the grand-final + 3 points for winning the game = 6 total.
+ Do you get points for 3rd place play-off as well?
Yes, same as the other finals, you would receive 3 points for winning this game.
+ What if a team finishes on the same number of points as my team during the season?
This will go down to the head-to-head record vs that team. If points are even between the two teams, it will go down to goal difference for the head-to-head record, in the unlikely event of a tie it will go down to goal difference over the course of the season.
+ What is the eligibility for players to play in the competition?
Players must have played 10 games for the entire year to be eligible to play. The cut-off will TBA, as we will need a couple weeks to get teams registered and signed up for the competition.
+ When do points begin and finish for the year?
TBA
+ My team plays in 2 or more leagues with Futsal 4 Life, what happens if we qualify twice?
You only get 1 qualification place total, if your team comes 1st in one league and 2nd in another, the 1st qualification will be the one that counts, and you will get a number 1 seed.
+ My team came 3rd for the season or 2nd for Fitzroy Thursdays, is there any chance we can still make it?
Yes, the minimum number of teams we need for the tournament is 16, so if we drop below this due to teams not being able to make it, or teams qualify more than once, then a wildcard entry will be introduced. Essentially all teams that qualified 3rd or 2nd for Fitzroy Thursdays will then be asked if they want to participate on gameday. Of those teams there will be a random draw to determine who plays in the tournament.
+ I play in more than 1 team with Futsal 4 Life, we both qualified, can I play in both on the day?
Not if they are both in men’s or both in mixed. If you qualify for a men’s and a mixed team, you may play in both, but it will be a lot more games for you as an individual, and game times may clash meaning you would need to choose a team for that game.
Gameday
+ What is the tournament format?
There will be 4 groups, each team will play each other once with the top 2 qualifying for the next round. There will then be Quarter-finals, semi-finals, and then the grand finals and 3rd place play-off.
+ How will seeding work for the tournament?
Teams will be split up into 2 categories, the top teams of each league where 2 spots are available will be considered number 1 seeds. Teams that finish 2nd in their leagues (Fitzroy Thursday top team) will be considered number 2 seeds.
For the group stage of champions league day each group will have at least two number 1 seeded teams and two number 2 seeded teams.
+ Will teams match up against other teams from their usual weekly league in the tournament?
Not in the group stage, teams that are drawn in the same group as another team in their weekly league will be re-drawn. Once quarter finals are reached, all bets are off, and it will be based on group position.
+ How long are game times?
Group stages 2x12 minute halves, finals 2 x 15 minutes.
+ How many players can we have on gameday?
As many that are eligible! With potentially a large number of games over two days, we recommend a minimum of 8 squad members. Please try to avoid the lowest possible squad size of 5 players, as an injury will be problematic.
+ Can spectators come? If so, how much?
Yes, spectators are allowed, $10 per day, kids 12 or under are free (no balls allowed inside to have a kick, purely to watch the games).
+ What prizes are on offer for the tournament?
Winners will receive a Champions League major trophy, with custom individual medals.
